Here at the Butterfly Kingdom, we want to share with you a unique, enriching experience through the undulating flight of our multicolor butterflies where it will be possible to learn about the life cycle of a variety of Costa Rican butterfly species, experiencing first-hand the mating behavior, egg deposition, caterpillar hatching, pupae or chrysalide formation and final stage the adult butterfly.

Our mission is to breed Costa Rican tropical butterfly species, with an educational purpose to teach our various generations of children, youth and adults; about the importance of coexisting with nature, by developing and promoting good environmental practices in concurrence with recycling, reutilization of organic material and rational consumption of our available natural and energy resources.


Our commitment to the environment

The World is changing faster than ever, because of an intense exploitation of our natural resources, massive industrialization and constant urban development. As a result our society today is facing major problems regarding global warming, extinction of species, deforestation, resource pollution, loss of our ozone layers, poverty and unemployment. One of the greatest challenges of our time is to discover and develop better technologies, new ways of living and better plans of action to achieve a real balance within economy, ecology and society; this is not an easy task and it will require new ways of thinking, a different approach and a change of attitude. In the face of these challenges, Butterfly Kingdom is contributing for the betterment of our planet by promoting sustainable development projects that allow the preservation, use and management of our national resources and habitats, sponsoring environmental friendly activities like, reforestation of native host plants and flowers creating new habitats for butterflies. The butterfly farm is also an educational tool where, the full process of metamorphosis of these wonderful insects can be demonstrated, as well as their ecological role in nature and their biological relationships with their environment. It is also important as a livelihood or fund generator for families, creating new sources of employment and income for producers and artisans, allowing them to improve their quality of life, becoming an environmentally friendly way a generating international devises for the country and for the small families or groups.
